Feast Days

St. Brigid: on Tuesday 1st Feb.  Consecrated her life to God and inspired other to follow her example.  She founded her monastery in Kildare.  Brigid was renowned for her hospitality, generosity and care of the sick. Devotion to St. Brigid extends far beyond Ireland to many European countries.  She died in 524.  The St. Brigid’s Cross, in legend used by St. Brigid to explain the Christian Faith, remains a popular sign of God’s protection.

The Presentation of the Lord:  on Wednesday 2nd Feb.  This feast recalls the presentation of Jesus in the temple and Mary’s encounter with Simeon, who recognized Christ as ‘a light to reveal God to the nations’.  That is why we also call it Candlemas Day.  It is also ‘World Day for Consecrated Life’ – an opportunity to pray for all who have consecrated their lives to Christ in the Religious Life.

St. Blaise: on Thursday 3rd Feb.  Blaise was a physician before becoming bishop of Sebaste and was martyred in 315. Since the 8th century he has been venerated as patron of those who suffer from disease of the throat.

Throats will be blessed after the 8.00am & 10.15am Mass in St. michae’s Church.

T.A.R.A  invite you to their First meeting on Friday the 4th Feb at 11am in the Community Centre, Michael’s St.  New members are welcome and looking forward to meeting again.  You are asked to still wear Facemask.
